According to the legend of some elderly people, during the Nguyen Dynasty, on Dong Trieu land, there were rowing wards and rowing teams operating quite methodically such as: Ganh cheo singing An Bien village (Thuy An commune), carrying cheo singing My Specific village (Hung Dao ward), the cheo singing of Que Lat village (Hoang Que commune) and so on. The district still transmits many traditional cheo songs: Sa disparity, Toò, singing, Clown bait, Road to school, Quartet school, Luoi and so on.
Artist Nguyen Thi Kim Mon, Dinh Luc Thuong hamlet, Hong Phong commune, said that she still preserved more than 50 typical cheo dances such as: Lower Love, Long and Long Road, Long and Long Road in the Forest, Military Tu Vu Service , The Islamist text and so on. Ancient cheo songs have contributed to the respect and promotion of the value of folk art, preserving cultural knowledge and folk performing arts.
However, over time, the ancient ancient dynasty of Dong Trieu gradually disappeared. Cheo is only performed sparsely in traditional festivals at cultural and historical sites. There was a time when people thought that ancient chèo only lived in the minds of artisans such as Nguyen Van Choc, Nguyen Ngoc Diep, Nguyen Kim Mon, Ngo Thuy Te, Nguyen Thi Kim Loan, Nguyen Thi Kiem, Minh Ta, Minh Dai, Ngoc Tiep etc. By 1995, rowing was again concerned, many ancient rowing tunes were collected, the cheo singing movement was restored.
Over the past 10 years, Dong Trieu has opened dozens of cheo classes for young people who love this traditional theater art. Each course lasts from 10 to 20 days and has from 35 to 60 students. At the training courses, students are supplemented with knowledge of cheo singing, vocal training, beat practice, drum beat, acting on stage. Through these training courses, the district discovered the nuclei and created favorable conditions for them to attend major competitions and achieve high results.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung, Head of Culture and Information Division of Dong Trieu Town, said: In the past July, the town organized a class of cheo dance songs for 35 students who are the core artists of the arts and culture of Communes and wards. Students have been conveyed by 8 artists of Cheo Quang Ninh Performing Arts, basic skills of traditional cheo singing, basic dances, fan dance in rowing, ancient cheo dance. This training course aims at preserving and promoting the traditional chèo culture, preserving the local cultural identity, building a healthy cultural environment and improving the spiritual and cultural life for the people.
After participating in the training course, students will be the bridges that continue to bring rowing to the masses of people in the town, this is the core force in building the cheo singing movement. At the same time, offering rowing tunes to serve tourists in traditional festivals creating a unique feature of Dong Trieu, contributing to building the image and brand of spiritual routes and destinations. This is even more convenient when the People's Committee of Quang Ninh Province has decided to recognize 4 routes and 14 tourist sites in Dong Trieu Town. Accordingly, 4 tourist routes include: Spiritual tour of the Tran Dynasty; spiritual and ecological tourism routes; Dong Trieu countryside tour; Fourth war tour in Dong Trieu area. Out of those four routes, only the Fourth War tour is difficult to bring in to perform, the remaining 3 are suitable, especially rowing ancient songs on the spiritual tourist routes. Most of the town's 14 attractions can also be put into performances to serve tourists.
In addition to creating a habitat for ancient rowing, associating with tourism so that this art form has a foothold and sustainable development, it needs a synchronous system of solutions such as: Collectibles, review, research, distribution. type, recommend the cheo melody. As well as enlist the support of the people, develop the mass music movement and mobilize the contribution of a team of artists and cheo artists.
